CONTENTS || 40% OFF POEM PRINTS | 25% OFF CUSTOM POEMS | RECS: OLGA TOKARCZUK AND ROBIN WALL KIMMERER
It’s always a bit uncomfortable, advertising myself. I’ve decided from here on out that if I am going to send reminders for sales and promotional events, I should come with an offering. This week, I have been really moved by some very beautiful art and conversation, and I’m excited to share that with you here as well.
First things first, and I’ll make this quick: My holiday sale ends this Friday. 40% off all poem prints and 25% off custom poetry while the queue has space :)
Once again, while this is not a guarantee, this may be my last season doing these prints in this way. Thank y’all so much for so many years of writing like this for you. It’s been such a gift to me in so many ways.
In other news, I have some wonderful things to share and recommend to you today.
I have been happily (?) working my way through Olga Tokarczuk’s Drive Your Plow Over the Bones of the Dead. I’m not sure whether or not it’s a good idea to tell you how very much I relate to its narrator? She delights me. In Very Me fashion, I briefly (but rather seriously) considered learning Polish so I could read this book in its original language, and then looked at my calendar and somewhat begrudgingly settled instead for this fabulous interview with Olga Tokarczuk and translator Jennifer Croft. The entire interview is wonderful, though I particularly enjoyed Tokarczuk’s response to a strange soundbite called “An Astronaut’s Guide to Risk Taking.”
Next, both last night and this morning I attended lectures by Dr. Robin Wall Kimmerer, the botanist and author of Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge and the Teachings of Plants. Hearing her once was not enough, so I went to hear her at Frederik Meijer Gardens last night, and then virtually attended her lecture at Grand Valley State University (where I am currently studying Autistic Poetics) this morning. Lucky for us all, the Gardens have made the video from last night’s event available, and I’m very happy to share it here now for your edification :)
I am sending you all gratitude and warmth for this blustery November day. May you be well.
