Hi all, some exciting news to share.
My wife, Alex Blue, came out with her record, Kin, today. I am beside myself, as I know just how much went into its creation, both in terms of lived experience and artistic courage. It is a candid work of resilience, longing, and hope. I am incredibly, incredibly proud.
She’s a dangerous thing, my memory / When your honey she gives / But not your sting
Kin was nearly a decade in the making, and the breadth and wisdom of these stories make that evident—it is as much a memoir as it is an album. It is nostalgia and loss and diaspora and queer motherhood and blessing. Unlike many songwriters, she drew from the talents of artists of diverse disciplines, writing with songwriter-scholar
, author Rebecca Schiller, and a poet (me). She collaborated with musical geniuses Hannah Read and Megan McCormick (one of my all-time favorite musical minds). This is such a unique record, and—biased though I may be—I think it’s a masterpiece. I’m so grateful to have been a small part of its making.Cassidy was my first best friend / We believed what our families did / But tryin’ to live in that gospel was more impossible than leaving it
Go listen to Kin wherever you stream music. Let it play all day. Find yourself in a song. Listen to poetry in its most full-body form. Support independent artists. And enjoy the record :) I truly believe you will.
Love and warmth,
torri
